New Orleans Gourmet Barbecue Shrimp Recipe

New Orleans Gourmet Barbecue Shrimp Recipe

New Orleans barbecue shrimp has nothing to do with a barbecue grill or barbecue sauce. This savory dish is all about lots of melted butter, spices, hot sauce and a hot cast iron. They taste great served with a side of hot, spicy boiled red potatoes with butter. The shrimp themselves are served in the cast-iron skillet, sputtering hot, and these are some huge gourmet shrimp.

They are served with the head and legs on, doused in a sauce that is half melted butter and half tangy deep red-orange and spicy, with bits or rosemary and dried basil throughout. Sliced scallions and lemon wedges complement the dish perfectly. This is the way they serve the shrimp at Deanie's Restaurant in New Orleans. The dish is a New Orleans original, not as spicy as some other city dishes, but rich and flavorful.
